Reasons Your Computer Chairs Break

Sadly, its not uncommon to have computer chairs snap under you. You might not even be that heavy, but chairs just arent made as well these days! Remember back when they were all metal? Those suckers withstood anything. These days, plastic is all youll find in most computer chairs. Overweight people tend to have even more problems since chairs often last only a few weeks before something breaks.

While you can keep using the chair without an arm or even if the back cracks and ends up at a weird angle (yes, this happens to many of us!), once the support column or one of the wheels or base legs goes, youre pretty much hooped. Many people cobble together Frankenchairs, made from a base that still functions with a seat that is still intact, just to save a bit of money. It might seem silly, but if you have computer chairs break on you every couple of months, this is what happens.

So, why do your chairs break? Here are three main reasons:

1. Its not built for weight. Most computer chairs are designed to withstand 150-200 lbs. So, if you weigh anything over that, your chair isnt going to last very long. Thats why you might want to look at computer chairs for overweight people, which can be rated for up to 500 lbs.

2. The material is poorly made. Unfortunately, there arent many high standards in the world of office chairs. Overweight people have discovered that plastic simply isnt designed to withstand much weight . . . it twists and bends and eventually cracks under the stress. These chairs are often stamped out of low cost plastic, which is not sturdy enough.

3. You move too much. When a computer chair is working properly, it will roll smoothly over the floor. However, poorly built chairs cant hold up to the weight. They will sink down, essentially crushing the wheels against the caps and the wheels wont roll. When this happens, you will end up jerking the chair to move it and that puts extra stress on the already fragile joints.

Often its a combination of these three factors that causes a computer chair to give way. You will want to make sure that you choose your chair very carefully. There are a number of designs in computer chairs for overweight people that will hold more and resist more action. Even if you arent obese, choosing a sturdier chair can be a good investment in the long run.

Computer Literacy For Children

The computer can be a great tool for anyone, especially children. It can be a medium to access countless pages of information, a place to create reports and other written projects, plus a myriad of other applications and possibilities. Computer literacy for children is an important beginning, giving kids the best tools for their lives and their future careers.

Some Positive Things Kids Can Do With Computers Today

Kids have come to use the computer as a research tool. They are able to access information about any subject they can think of and a few things they probably didn’t. One of the more positive things to research are the free writing contests for kids. These writing contests will get your child fired up about writing and usually have different prizes to reward them for their efforts. Some of these prizes even include a publishing contract with upfront royalties paid to your child. If they do a search for writing contests, be sure it is geared towards kids and there is not an entrance fee. Some of the contests may require sponsorship, and in that case you can encourage your child to talk to their teachers about entering one of these as a school wide effort. Free writing contests for kids will recognize the talents of these young writers.

If a child is going to be using a computer or has been using a computer, then it is best if they learn the proper way to type. Many people, both kids and adults, have developed their own version of typing, but there is a proper way to do so. Kids typing help programs can get the ball rolling. There are software programs and sites online that are geared towards kids. Typing help is only a click away. Before you know it, your student will be learning the keyboard and increasing their typing speeds.

Learning the keyboard is one of the first steps in computer literacy for children. It is important that they learn all the parts of the computer, so they can start learning computer literacy. For children, it has been proven that they learn best by any hands on experiences they can get; this is true when it comes to computers. There are many opinions regarding computer literacy and children. Your young student may seem like they know more about the computer than you do, but does this make them computer literate? Probably not; just like when a young child claims to know how to read because they memorized that book that you read to them a million times–computer literacy is the ability to not only operate a computer but to understand how to also apply its technology to solve a problem.

Teaching computer literacy for kids has become a priority for even the very young. It is thought it best to teach children at a young age, so they grow into their computer with the right understanding of how it works. There are companies out there that have been teaching computer literacy for kids for over 20 years. They have their own learning centers and make school visits to teach all that there is to know about computer literacy, but at an age appropriate level.

Enhancing writing skills for teens can be done using computers. There are websites that are geared to teen writers where they can safely and positively express their inner thoughts and feelings using the power of the word. Writing development does not end because you are in the higher grades at school, as a matter of fact you can see it as a beginning. You have learned the basics when you were young and now you can apply that knowledge and create some wonderful stories. Keeping a journal (online or on paper) is a great way for enhancing writing skills for teens.

Computers are great tools for students, but these students should be taught the proper way to use them so they can get the most benefit out of their computer.

How To Prevent Files From Being Deleted And How To Deal With Deleted Files

There have been several situations with computers and laptops where files and folders have accidentally been deleted either by you or a family member, or perhaps, someone just randomly messing around on your PC. However, there are other causes of files being erased, like those that we have no control of whatsoever, meaning, they just have to happen naturally. Here are a few of the many causes of data loss:

1. Computer viruses. This is a common problem among several PCs viruses. Sometimes, even if users have an antivirus software installed into their PC, it still may not be automatic in checking and getting rid of viruses, that, they end up accumulating in your computers system. This unfortunately results in the crashing of a computer, therefore, forcing you to lose some of your documents, pictures, music, videos and others, especially those that have been detected with a virus.

2. Natural disasters. These include floods, earthquakes, heavy rain, thunder, lightning and more, which usually always result in the same thing: loss of electricity. You could be using your computer when these natural disasters happen, that, when the electricity suddenly goes off, it is most likely that you will have lost a few of your files, especially if you have been working on a certain document. Another result is your computer having a system failure due to the power breakdown as well. It is common for PCs to have system failures and once these happen, sometimes, you wont be able to have your PC restored, that you end up losing everything.

3. Accidental deletion. This is the most embarrassing, yet the most common cause of data loss. A lot of people have frequently made mistakes, not knowing that they have erased an important file.

If you have had some important documents erased and would like to know how to get them back, here are a few tips on how to deal with the problem:

1. You can recover deleted files by purchasing and using data recovery programs. There are several data recovery software available online, or, in computer stores in malls.

2. Another way you can recover deleted files is by opening the Recycle Bin folder in your PC and checking if the documents you lost are there. If your file is there, you can easily restore it by right clicking on the document and clicking Restore. Or, if you want to restore everything in the Recycle Bin, then, you have the option to do so. If you look at the top of the window of the Recycle Bin, you should be able to find the words Restore All Items. Click that and you can restore everything in the Recycle Bin and it will automatically place everything in the Recycle Bin back to the folders it was saved in.

How to prevent data loss:

1. Store your important documents and other files on the D: drive of your computer. Every PC should have this drive. Whats good about this drive, is that, no matter what happens to your laptop or computer, as long as you have this particular drive, computer experts and repairmen can obtain the information you have stored and saved on the D: drive. Therefore, you basically havent lost any important data.

2. Buy an external hard drive. These may be costly, but, at least, you wont have to worry about losing any important documents. Every time you have an important file, make a copy of it immediately on your external hard drive.

3. Purchase a reputable antivirus software and make sure you constantly make good use of it.

Evolution Of Computer Technology

Today computers are an indispensable part of the lives of human beings but at one point of time there were no computers. Knowing the history of computers and how much progress has been made can aid us in understanding just how complicated the invention of the computer really is. Unlike other devices, the computer is the one invention that does not have any one specific inventor. Throughout the development of the computer, various people have made contributions to making a computer work. Some of these inventions were those of complete computers or other additions that helped revolutionize the computer that existed at that time. One such invention was the Integrated Circuit.

The single most important year in the history of computers is 1936. It was in 1936 that the very first computer was created by Konrad Zuse who called it the Z1 Computer. This was the first system that was fully programmable. Even though there had been devices that had come and gone before this but they didnt match upto it because of its superior computing power. Till 1942 no business saw profits and opportunities in computers. The first computer company was called ABC computers and was owned and operated by Clifford Berry and John Atanasoff. Two years later in 1942 came the Harvard Mark I computer which furthered the science of computing even more.

The age of computers saw its biggest change ever in 1953 with the introduction of International Business Machines known today as IBM. The company has always been a key player in the development of new systems. This was the first real competition to bee seen in the world of computing and helped to encourage faster development of better computers. The first contribution of IBM was the IBM 701 EDPM Computer. A year after this the first high level programming language was brought to the centre stage. This was a programming language that had not been written in ‘assembly’ or binary languages and was called FORTRAN which was written to enable more people to be able to program computers. In the year 1955 Bank of America, Stanford Research Institute and General Electric joined hands to introduce the very first computer for use in banks.

After that the evolution was quick. Computers like Apple I and II, The Scelbi, Mark-8 Altair, TRS-80, the Commodore Pet computers and IBM 5100 were the leaders of the sector of home computing. The micro processor was like the heart of the computer and began with the Intel 4004. from then it has evolved into todays Pentium IV, Dual core and Core 2 Duo processors. Along with the evolution in Hardware came the evolution in software which went from assembly languages to todays languages like C++, Java and PHP. There is more to come in this field and that more will surely be AI or Artificial Intelligence. The term was coined by John McCarthy and is today a major field of study.
